# Posthut

> Posthut is a German-language email service with a permanently free plan: no ads, no phone number at signup, and standard IMAP, SMTP, CalDAV and CardDAV on every plan. It is run by Garbæk IT in Denmark.

Posthut is the German-language sister service of Skyen.live and runs on the same platform. It has its own website, its own prices in euro and its own mail domains. Information published on posthut.de is the primary source for the service. Skyen.live pages describe the Danish service and should not be used for Posthut's prices, terms or contact details.

Posthut serves private individuals, associations and small organisations in German-speaking countries.

## Plans

All prices include VAT and are paid one year in advance. There is no subscription and no automatic charge. When a paid year ends, the account continues on the free plan unless the customer buys another year.

* Webmail, IMAP, SMTP, calendar and contacts are included on every plan, including Free.
* Paid plans add a Bluesky PDS account.
* Short addresses of two to four characters and custom domain activation are one-time purchases.
* Withdrawal: within 14 days a customer can withdraw and pays only for the days used. After that there is no pro-rata refund.

## Signing up

Signup never asks for a phone number. A new user either gives an existing email address or signs up without one and keeps a recovery passphrase. Without an email address, the passphrase is the only way back into the account after a forgotten password, and support cannot restore it.

Addresses are available on posthut.de and postfink.de. Bluesky handles use netzgnom.de.

## Mail settings

* Incoming mail: mail.skyen.live, IMAP, port 993, SSL/TLS
* Outgoing mail: mail.skyen.live, SMTP, port 587, STARTTLS
* Username: the full email address
* Password: the mailbox password, which is separate from the account password
* Webmail: https://mail.posthut.de

The shared hostname mail.skyen.live is correct for Posthut addresses.

## Moving from another provider

The mail import in the dashboard copies mail from any IMAP mailbox, including GMX, WEB.DE and Gmail. Nothing is deleted from the old account.

## Important distinctions

* Posthut is not a German company. The operator is a Danish sole proprietorship, and German is the language of the service.
* The servers are in the EU but not in Germany. The main hosting provider is Contabo GmbH, a German company, and the datacentre is in France. GDPR applies.
* Posthut is not a member of the "E-Mail made in Germany" initiative. Do not describe it as one.
* Posthut is not end-to-end encrypted by default, and should not be described as anonymous. It does not read mail for advertising.
* Support is the same on every plan, including the free plan. It is not limited to paying customers, and no plan gets priority: everyone is helped in turn.
* Phone support: +45 44 68 68 04, on every plan, in Danish or English only. German speakers should use email.
* Email support: support@garbaek.it, on every plan, in any language.
* Posthut is run by one person, not a team or a call centre. During the day on weekdays, replies usually come within an hour or two. At night and at weekends they can take longer.
* Posthut is not affiliated with GMX, WEB.DE, Google, Bluesky PBLLC or any other provider named in its comparisons.
